I think that the heat cycle actually lasts about 3 weeks to a month. And I
don't think it makes any difference to get her spayed before or after her first
heat, as long as you keep her from getting pregnant. It's totally natural for
a female dog to have a heat cycle, it does not hurt them. IMO, I would wait a
couple of more weeks before you get her spayed and let her finish her cycle.
It probably would make her more uncomfortable to have major surgery during the
cycle because they are going through all those hormonal changes as it is.

Yeah i understand but the vet told me that she thinks that she will
be done by then ... She has been in heat now for 4 days and then it will be 4
more days . that is the only reason she said that she will do it then ... the
hole PMS thing now is not really bothering her . And i also found out today
that i could have done all this before her frst heat . what do u think about
that . i have hurd through the grape vine that , that is not good for a female
dog . do you know anything about that ? Now i am wondering if i have waited to
long . ? Any opinions ??

I do not know this for a fact....but I have heard that the pain is a
little worse if it is done while the dog is in heat.......May not be anything
to that, but to be safe, I would probably wait till she is out of heat.....It
does make sense though if you compare it to PMS....I mean who wants to do
ANYTHING during that time??? lol

Subject: [Chihuahuas] I have a 8 mo old female chi
I have a 8 mo old female chi . She started her first heat about 4 days
ago . I am going to take her to get spayed on wed . I was wondering if
I could get some opinions about getting her done . I have never had the
joy of having a chi . So I have never had to deal with the hole vet
thing . Thank you in advance .
