Hi Erinn. Congrats on your new Chi puppy! Puppies do get very excited on
walks. I know mine does! I would definitely recommend using a harness (a soft
harness) for walks instead of a collar for a Chihuahua. They have extremely
sensitive necks and can get hurt when they pull on the leash. Also, if I were
you, I would start out walking your Chihuahua separately at first. That way,
you have more control and can train her to walk on her leash nicely. Make sure
you praise her when she is walking nicely on her leash and/or when she goes
potty. She will still get excited, she is a puppy, after all. But I think it
will be easier for you to teach her if you don't have the boxer along on the
walks with her. If the praising isn't enough to distract her, you might want
to bring little tiny treats along to give her when she is not pulling and when
she pays attention to you while walking. After she learns nice walking and
matures a little, then I would work on getting her and
the boxer to walk together. Good luck!

          Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had the same problem as i do when there chi's
were puppys. I just got her last week and i have a 1 yr old boxer/
sheperd mix. Iv been trying to take them on walks together, but if i
do the puppy gets so excited and just pulls on the leash and about
chokes herself to get to the other dog. She wont even go to the
bathroom when i take them both. It sounds like shes coughfing when she
gets so excited, or hyperventalating. I think im gonna give up on
trying to walk them together.
thanks
Erinn
