My English Setter would not hurt a fly, however, when the dogs are excited a chi can easily get underfoot and get hurt. It has happened, and I do not doubt that it contributed to the $4600 back surgery that my chi eventually had to get....-- em:) ===================== From: Stefanie Brannan <[EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:stef481%40yahoo.com> com> Date: 2007/05/02 Wed AM 10:16:36 CDT To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:Chihuahuas%40yahoogroups.com> ups.com Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] Re: Chihuahua's and other dogs I have 2 Australian Shepherds and a Chihuahua and they all get along fine. I do have to keep them separate when I cannot watch, just in case. The size difference does issue more supervision. Even though my Aussies would never intentionally hurt the Chi, they might accidentally jump on her, run her over or something. So, in this lady's case, a smaller dog may be a better choice since she is looking for a companion for her Chi. Having a larger dog, she may have to seperate them when she can't be with them. It can be dangerous to a little dog to bring in another dog who will have an unfair size advantage over a small dog, especially he is was originally raised alone. I also think, given the choice, that dogs of the same breed will understand each other better and have more in common than dogs with a widely different outlook on life. Nothing is ever written in stone of course. It really depends on the personality of both dogs in the end.
