A fear biter is a dog that is normally fine around certain people but when it's in a stressful situation, like around strangers or in a strange place...or say someone puts her/his hand out to pet her and the dog backs up and the person keeps coming for it to pet it, it will bite or snap. In the dog's mind, it's being cornered and doesn't have the opportunity to flee. I have one fear biter, although she's been well socialized. She still does not like children or strangers and will snap; it's just her nature. I had a Rottie that was the same way...was a great dog and wouldn't harm a soul, that is if everyone would just leave him alone. Hope this helps. Linda
