Hi, I'm a new proud owner of a recued chi!
I'm wondering at what age I should put him on senior formula foods.
I understand that chi's are relatively long lived compared to other
breeds, so I'm not sure if they mature more slowly. And if that is the
case, then would they also be considered "senior" at a later age than
seven as well?
We know that he is about 8 years old.
He just swallows kibble that is too small; but doesn't seem to mind
crunching the next size up despite missing some front teeth, so that's
the direction I've gone in the interest of his dental health.
His only other known/presumed health concerns are a recently amputated
eye and possible emphysima(sp?)(as speculated by our vet). I don't
think he's over weight based on criteria I've read, though he seems to
have a stocky build. I'll watch him over time and see.
Other than that he's well behaved, loves everyone, and is prone to
bursts of happy playfulness. We knew when we met him that he was a
great dog.
I don't want to "hold him back" by feeding him a lower-energy food too
soon, but I don't want to do him a dis-service by not meeting matured
nutritional needs either.
Anyone have input?
I'm considering putting him on Diamond Senior. He was previously on
Purina Small Bits and is currently eating Purina One Senior.
Thanks!
