Well, mine were trying to eat it but then stopped when i reprimanded 
them. Also directions say to fill the box where they can't see or 
hear because it sounds like pouring food into a dish. 
Compared to the shepherd cross next door, my chi's poops are tiny, 
but I agree, they poop a lot. I have to say though, when I had my 
male and female seperated when she was in heat, the female definetely 
poops less than the male!
