As already told, it does mean Rainbow bridge. I would google the term and read
the poem that started the whole concept. It is a beautiful poem...wish I had
the direct link, but please do google it...you wont regret it. It is a poem
about a dog that passes away and is now in green pastures and enjoying life and
waiting for his master to join him (or something to that effect). It started
the term rainbow bridge or, now referred to as the bridge. I guess you could
say it means doggy heaven. Basically, it is just a comforting thought for those
who have lost beloved pets......

ok, i hate to sound ignorant, but i've seen this phrase on here twice today.
i'm assuming "went to the bridge means that they've passed away, but can
someone explain it to me? why "went to the bridge"?

just an aside, when i was homecooking for an elderly boston i found that
the only canned sweet potatoes that don't come in syrup are the ones for
babies.. old zeus went to the bridge last november and i just found some jars
in the back of the pantry.. will give them to my daughter to add to O'Briens
food..
