It could be ear mites, you can try putting a few drops of mineral oil or
vegetable oil in there and rubbing it around and then let the dog shake it out,
the oil drowns the mites. Mites have a life cycle of 3 weeks though. I am
having the same thing with a new cat I just got. I have known since I was young
that mineral oil was the treatment for mites. If it doesn't clear up then you
probably have a yeast or bacterial infection. You can also get ear mite stuff
at the pet store. The important thing is to massage it into the dogs ears from
the outside, until you hear it making a gushy sound, then let it shake it out,
that should get the dark goopy stuff out, clean the rest up with cotton balls,
not cotton swabs. If you have a cat or other dog you have to treat them too.
I had heard that Chihuahuas do have ear problems and one way to prevent it is
to get more than one because they clean each others ears and mine are both
almost a year old and I haven't had a problem yet.

My chi's ears are stinky too! I would like to know what to use. I have tried
rubbing alcohol on a qtip and carefully cleaned it.
