Hi All,
Thank you all again for your helpful tips and education on
chihuahuas. Kita was a higher energy dog when she arrived two months ago, but
it might
have been due to nervous energy. Now she sleeps a lot. She probably didn't
know where to sit or lie down. Also, she never knew how to sit before because
the previous owner would try to force her and hit her. The more she did that
the less apt she was at sitting. When she first came, she would lean up
against me on the couch instead of sitting or lying next to me. She wouldn't
sit
and had a hard time lying down. She stayed this way for hours. I initially
tried to gently push her rear down to enforce sit and she freaked. So, I
would
"catch" her sitting, then I'd say the command loudly and give her the treat.
Now, she sits fine and I never touch her. SHe eats voraciously now....she is
often in the middle of play and then drops the toy, runs to her bowl and
licks and licks and licks. She can do this all day on and off. That's why I
was
concerned. She seemd so hungry. Maybe she's just enjoying her food now that
it's not being shoved down her throat. And her collar had been on so tight, I
have no idea how she was even able to swallow.
