I do have experience in cleaning and draining wounds and have various gauges of
needles etc that i can lance it with and some amoxicillin that I could mix up
for her. I have treated my cat various times (my older cat 15yrs old) and my
husband grew up on a beef farm, his dad still has 500 head. They did all the
stuff themselves. My husband has fixed prolapses in cattle etc.
I did get rid of the excess pus and she didn't have a problem with me doing
it, doesn't seem to be causing her excess pain and she allowed me to squeeze it
although I didn't do it too hard because I didn't want it to go internal. She
is 10 1/2 lbs so I'm assuming it is the same doseage as for my approx 10lb cat?
Most vets around here can't see her until Tues anyways...
  Thanks
  Sue

If you have no experience with home treatments, you should probably
get her to a vet. Personally if it were me, since I have treated a lot of my
pets over the years and learned a lot from the vets when I have had to take
them in, I would first clean the area real good, gently squeeze out any puss or
infection, put and anti-biotic ointment on it, give some antibiotics and wait a
day or two. If it starts to heal, great...if not, then I would see a
vet......but then again, like I said, I have treated my own pets for stuff like
this a lot, have the medication needed on hand, ect.....so basically I have a
little knowledge of what I am doing. If you don't have this, you may want to go
on to the vet and while you are there...learn for the next time :-)

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Any ideas about lump/lesion with pus around ear

My poor dog has a rather large swelling at the front of her head just in
front of her ear. I am suprised because I just noticed it today. I do have them
out every day and she is white so I would have noticed it so it would have have
to been bedtime last night/overnight/this morning. When I noticed it, it had
cracked pus looking stuff on it. I put a hot cloth on it. A bit of pus came out
and the scab stuff came off but now it is bright red and seems to have a mass
inside it. She doesn't seem bothered by it and has let me look at it.
  Here is a pic
I'm thinking I should take her in but not sure, I have another chi and also a
cat that likes to play with them so she could have got the scratch/bite from
either if that is what it is.
  Thanks

Sue
