When I feed my cats and big dog outside, I mix both can and dry together (my cats eat dog food...they hate cat food). Then, I use the same pan...with a little of that canned food stuck to the pan.....to mix in dry for the chis. So they end up with a little bit of canned on their dry for flavoring. So it is a little moist....but they food bowls are never empty. If I see an empty bowl, I refill it even if it is not feeding time. I don't think it stales, /Marsha
