  All an undercoat really is is two things.....hair that grows on the underside 
(most chis don't really have hair on the underside) and also presents as a 
really thick coat. A lot of double coated l/c's look more like a pom or other 
fuzzy breed, simply because they have so much hair.
   
  I have attached two pics of my chis. The first, Taz, is a double coated l/c, 
the send, Dinah, is a l/c without undercoat......

      I read that long-haired chi's have an undercoat. How can you tell if they 
have an undercoat, I just see lots of fur!!!
