I looked on the internet for patterns too. I ended up just making one up!
I single crocheted a chain that equaled the measurement from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. I then dc until I felt the back piece was big enough. I then determined how much of a chest piece the back needed and folding the back piece into a long rectangle, I added sc a band of several rows to attach the two sides of the back piece (this formed the hole where the head would go). I then dc two rows around the opening for the head (around the back piece and chest piece) and it made a sort-of mock turtle neck to bring the sweater up to cover more of his neck and throat area. The great thing is that this just slips over the head easily, no struggling with feet/legs! The band was attached at a point behind the front legs to secure (and not get wet when Chico lifts his leg) the sweater around him. The band around the bottom is very long, as it comes from one side of the sweater where it is attached to the bottom edge of the back piece, wrapped around underneath, then actually is brought up over the top of the back piece and is secured by a lovely vintage buckle! I did sc around the entire sweater to give it a finished look. Again, the cool thing is that the sizing is somewhat adjustable because of the buckled band - and really easy to put on and off. I'll post pictures to my album later - I'm surprised it turned out so well - I haven't crocheted in a long, long time, and wouldn't ever consider myself an expert. If I could do this, anyone who has every crocheted should be able to do it!
