I don't give supplements and I feed total raw and bones. However I know not
everyone is comfortable with that. Just make the ratio of meat greater than
the veggies. I really believe that if a dog has a good, well rounded diet
they don't need supplements and I feel they are a waste of money unless it
is for a particular problem.

Thanks Sharon!
Katie is just precious! I enjoy seeing the photos of everyones babies. I
found one site that said 75% carbs and 25% meat. I think that is far too
much carbs and not enough meat. Another site said 40% meat, 30% veggies, and
30% starch. I think that may still be just a wee bit much on the starchy
carbs and maybe a bit less meat than I would give. Some say nearly all meat
and bones, but I'm not convinced of the bone thing. I think I'll stay away
from the bones and maybe go with a calcium suppliment or bone meal (not the
garden variety!). But, I am still in the process of researching. Has anyone
heard of "The missing link"? It is a suppliment that was recommended when
feeding "real food".

Hi Joy,

My chihuahuas favorite recipe is at the end of this email. All dogs should
be given meat, raw or cooked, veggies, and even fruit. But NEVER give
onions, raisins, grapes, or chocolate. And there is no need to salt food
you cook for them - salt is not good for dogs. But garlic is good for
keeping fleas away. Here's the recipe:

chicken breasts or legs, boiled
veggies - potatoes, peas, carrots

That's it. lol Katie just LOVES this!! Of course you can add whatever
other veggies you want. I can't get her to eat any other veggies though.
She will be one year old next week, and has only recently started eating the
carrots. This is a very simple recipe and doesn't take long to cook. I'm
not positive, but I think dogs need more meat than the veggies, so keep that
in mind when you cook the meal. And NO cooked bones. There's a lot of home
cooked meals for dogs on the Net. I got an ebook of home cooked meals for
dogs on ebay for $1. Anyway, I hope you find this recipe helpful.
