Same situation...I have grown up with big dogs - Rotts, Dobes & Akitas. Which
we still have 2 Dobes and 1 Akita.
And 5 Chi's...well 2 belong to my middle daughter....but they will stay until
she moves in Sept.

Emmy's BF introduced us to his mom's Chi over 3+ years ago. I fell in love
with the strong boldness, yet loving and cuddly
ways!! So our 8 year old kept asking for a dog she can cuddle with, sleep
in/on her bed and be an active playmate for her.

Well, we got Luna who is a protector, a loving & loyal friend...Luna actually
hangs out and listens to Gabby while she reads to her, as well as participates
in afternoon tea...(of course Luna love the cookies, tolerates the decaf tea -
not much).
She has taught Luna to climb the ramp and slide down a slide attached to her
play structure. Dances, and many tricks to mention.

My husband who is a Golden Retriever, big dog person has a very soft spot in
his heart for all of our Chi's now...the 5 month old "Whisper" sleeps on his
shoulder, and he doesn't care if we have all 4 of them on a queen bed with us -
he is very protective over them - (keeping an eye on them when the big dogs
get rowdy)...

Long story short - There are NO regrets to having this breed as a part of our
family!!

I was talking to my fiance today and we we're talking about the chi's.He asked
me a very good question. What made my want a chihuahua? Whythat breed?I really
had to think of a good answer. When I was younger I alwayshad large dogs (labs,
sheperds ect.) So when I got my first apartmentI knew didn't want a room mate,
I wanted a companion. I reserch allkinds of different breeds for months. Than I
remembered the chihuahuamy childhood friend had. All that little dog wanted to
do is be withher. That was what I wanted a chihuahua. I was talking to
breeders, rescues and looking online. I just couldn't find the right one for
me.So I wait abou two years. On my 21st birthday I was looking at the the local
classified ads andfound a breeder about an 45min. from my house. She had a
litter ofthree puppies. I had full intentions of getting a female but as soonas
I picked him up I knew he was my dog. He licked my face and thentucked his
little nose in my arms. I guess it's just like everythingelse in life...You
just know when something is meant to be.I now have two chihuahuas and I would
change a thing. I've never hadanything or anyone give such unconditional love.
They are my life..Ijust wouldn't know what to do with.out themSo I wanted to
ask you all why chi's?
