When I adopted our foster chi, Jaelyn, her previous foster mom (and also my area co-ordinator for the rescue) had her on canned Chicken Soup For Dog Lovers. I was told to add a bit of warm water to the canned and mix it together (because Jaelyn tends to get constipated from not drinking water). So far she's done fantastic on it. I tried mixing the dry CSFDL in with the canned, but she got constipated again. lol I don't know exactly how healthy it is compared to others, but she does great on it and wolfs it down in no time.
Honestly, with her being my first dog I'm lost in this area too. The recalls have made it even more difficult for me to figure out which brand is best for her and our kitties and find one that we can afford too. :/ I could really use some input too about this. So you're definitely not alone. ;) Jesslan Foster Mom @ Shih Tzu & Fur Baby Rescue - http://www.stfbr.com/ Volunteer @ Chautauqua County Humane Society - http://spcapets.com/ Furever Mom To Doggy - Jaelyn / View Her Photos - http://tinyurl.com/jaelynlove Furever Mom To Kitties - Lucius, Gypsy, Kylee and Ethaniel Visit My Kitties, Doggy & Fosters - http://mdnyhtkyss.com/cattitude/ ----- Original Message ----- From: josiefeldman To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, August 31, 2008 4:22 PM Subject: [Chihuahuas] Dog Food I'm trying to figure out what the best food to feed my chi would be. She has a lot of trouble chewing kibble, which is why I recently switched her to Natural Choice small bites for puppies from Canidae Chicken and Rice. She seemed to be liking it, but upon further research I discovered a lot of owners have been having issues with Nutro brand foods very recently and there has been talk of contamination and recall, so I got her off it immediately and went back to Canidae. She has trouble chewing the pieces, though. I feel like I've tried every "Natural" dog food out there. I even tried Evo's small dog kibble and she didn't seem to like it. My boyfriend's pets were among the very first to be poisoned in the wave of pet food recalls and I'm concerned about pet food in general. It seems like there is always SOMETHING bad about every pet food I've researched. Are there any brands out there that are actually healthy? Any brands that my chi won't have so much trouble chewing (she's really small). Any input would be much appreciated. I think finding healthy pet food is a common concern for all of us on this board. Perhaps we can exchange some knowledge about the topic? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ No virus found in this incoming message.
