I really feel for you I had to make that decision 3 years ago with my Chow Kodi. His back legs just gave out on him. He was 16 years old and the arthritis just got too bad for him. But it was still a hard decision. I know you'll make the right one. Mom had to do the same thing with her dog Harley this year and it still bothers her. Harley had cancer and there wasn't anything they could do for him either. He just wasted away to nothing and it was painful to watch.
