I agree completely! Children (and many adults) need to know that an animal of any kind is a lifelong comittment! We also invite the local animal shelter in to do a presentation. People need to know there are animals in need. That is also why I have a doggie reading group at school and encourage parents to adopt from shelters. We have animals in the classroom to promote humane education and responsibility.
