If your momma is having "milk fever" then that means she has an infection...so your vet did the only thing he could do to actually save her life...untreated, it could kill her. So, he did the best thing. Is it best if a pup continues to nurse some? Sure, but sometimes it just isn't possible.....this way, they will all live, if they continued to nurse, they would get sick and she would die from the infection. I would not keep the pups away completely, just allow them around her supoervised only and don't allow them to nurse for a few days....after a few days, the milk should be dried up and it shouldn't be a problem. Supplment the one that doesn't want to eat, but encourage it to eat as much as possible....don't suppliment till it is full or else it will never even bother trying to eat...just supplment enough to keep it healthy....
