With Apache, we socialized him with our family and friends, but he will bark and wag his tail like crazy at anyone he does not know. His barking drives me insane. Once he gets used to them, they are his bestest friend. He does especially love my daughter's friends though and will go crazy when he sees them, and when we pick his sis up from school, he barks at all the kids with his tail a waggin and yet again attempting to drive me insane LOL! I think he gets super excited and wants to know everyone, but there is not one person that he does not end of loving...LOL! We took him to the park once to watch the doggie dock jumping contest and he went up to complete strangers with no barking whatsoever....and did not bark the whole time we were there, ...so I am guessing that his behavior is part territorial and part excitement for him that he barks like that....he never shows any signs of stress, more like excitability. We are lucky that he loves Children, Dogs, Cats etc.....I think you are right about your dogs Robert... they are not used to having young kids around them and of course they are going to bark and feel nervous, some PEOPLE get nervous around young kids, wondering what they are going to do or what they are going to break....and your doggies may just feel the need to protect you.....I think that your doggies are just set in their ways and it is normal doggie behavior if they are suddenly around young kids that they are not used to and it is natural for them to be scared, nervous and shy which would force them to bark and growl even. I hope I have not said too much...LOL!
