once your lease expired it automatically converted to a month to month tenancy which means either party has the right to end the tenancy with a 30 (or in some states maybe longer) day notice. So realy, they don't need a reason to put you off the property with proper notice. If you don't conform to their rules, then you could very well be asked to leave.
However, if you can get a doctors statement that the dogs are neccessary for your sons emotional/mental well-being, then you probably have a case. It doesn't matter, per se, that the state you live in does not have provisions for therapy dogs...that is federal law and it trumps state law. Therapy dogs do not have public access rights the way service dogs do, but there are housing exceptions...they do have housing rights. I would talk to your local legal aid for help in the matter. But before I did anything else, I would try to simply appease them and ask for permission....maybe all they realy want is for you to show them "respect" and ask for their ok....they may very well be willing to give the ok, especially if you set forth the grounds of medical neccessity for your son, if you just ask nicely.
