Well Pat...maybe I am wierd but I would not feel good about leaving her in a box all day...no matter the size...but that is just me. I would do whatever I could to not do that. My rule here on crates is no more than 2 hours...unless sleeping at night. I am sure she will survive but my personal opinion is that it is not a good option. It sounds like that is what you feel comfortable with though and thats what you have to worry about. You know what works in your home and with your dogs and everyone feels differently. For me...i would do something different or I wouldn't go LOL

Like I said my "crate" is really really huge.. It is more like a wire kennel.. A large shepard or other large dog could stand up and turn around in it.. It has room at one end for a potty pad and at the other room for her little bed..

IF I had a garage moving furniture out might an option but I don't have one and I can not seeing hubby agreeing to put the furniture on the carport .. Lol

Hi Pat...if you can't take her with you, have you considered using the play pen in the house just while you are gone? I know you said it was too big for the house but maybe you could move things around a bit. That way she would feel more "out" and not in a box during the day...a play pen would give her a place to play...a place to sleep and a place to pee. Thats what I would do...my couch might be visiting the garage for that time!

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Question

I have a question.. I am supposed to go to Dallas for couple of days at the end of the month for a conference.. Well yall know I just got Isi so now I am in a quandry.

She is approx 5 MO old according to the vet. I cannot take her with me and so far have been unable to find someone to keep her over the weekend. My husband will be home but he works. She has a large kennel and is obviously used to being in it. At this point I put her in it if I have to leave the house as I don't feel I can trust her yet.

Do you think she will be okay to leave at home with James even though it means she will have to be in the kennel all day?

Ugh I hate pet parent decisions like this.. I am going camping this weekend and I will take her with me.. I am just gonna fold up either the kennel or my portable playpen (which is too big for the house) to take with me for when I cant keep my eye right on her.. Leaning toward the kennel as I can put a blanket over it easier for shade if need be.. Of course they sleep in the tent with me at night. Miguel wont be going as he just isnt a very good camper unless my hubby goes.. Lol.. So he will be staying home with Daddy.

So I hope to hear everyone's opinions on leaving Isi in her kennel all day.
