Thanks, Marsha! It seems quite a ways but actually takes just 2.5 hours. Could do it in two but the rescue, Mixer, likes to sniff out the animal trails amongst other things [!] so that keeps the pace manageable. This summer has been very hot after a long, cold Winter and Spring so haven't been able to do the distances as consistently as last year pre-Pecos. The paper had an article by local vets that warned dog owners specifically not to take dogs out for extended periods if one broke out in a sweat just being outside. That's been part of July and all of August. While I took Mixer out for two to four-mile walks, Pecos only joined us outside while we were doing yard work or attempting to lounge on the deck. We live on a small acreage which gave me the idea that Pecos might be up for a walk with the big dog. The way he runs and hops across the yard is something to see. The miles seem excessive for a Chihuahua to me as well. I was overwhelmed with guilt after the walk and went on line to find some guidelines. There were only a couple of relevant posts but they were all over the place, from 'twice around the coffee table' to 'as far as they want to go.' Talk to you later.
