A dog will most likely give it its all just to be with you. I've seen dogs around here (its hot in Central Texas) not walking or running normally due to the hot street or sidewalk cement, with their tongue hanging out and the owner happily jogging or even biking along, while the animal is looking in distress. When I got Spice, I figured that since she was doing "doubletime" with those little bitty legs, , our usual 2 mile or more walks were a bit much for her. I've since discovered that a mile is about her limit. As an update, walked Pecos again Tuesday for two miles along with his stablemate. This was more of a stroll since my better half came with us and his knees, back, ankles, et al., are in rough shape. Still, wish he could join us more often. We talked during the day and Pecos was his usual self. No signs of swelling or discomfort in his joints or pads. When I got home and started to get the dogs' walking accoutrements together, Pecos began dancing in circles so took that as a signal to bring him out with Mixer and I again. Who'd a thunk a Chihuahua could go the distance! Still looking for guidance.
