I to am new to this group but its a great bunch of people that all adore their chi's and as far as I am concerned their is not a better breed around. I never thought 10 years ago that I would ever have one as I thought they were just yappy little dogs. But boy did I find out that they have the biggest hearts, they are so smart and so loyal to thier owners. They really like their own breed too because of their size they enjoy playing with someone that is like them. In fact in about 3 weeks I am getting my little girl's real sister. I am so excited the wait has seemed longer than when I was pregnant and although I get a lot of pictures she is almost 2 hours away from me so I have not got to hold her yet. I can not wait! Make going out fun. Lots of praise and treats. When you are relaxed it makes it easier for your dog to relax. Practice frequently and keep trips fairly short to begin with. Frida loves going to outdoor coffee shops, friends homes, car rides and parks. I always encourage people to take a training class. It was amazing for our bonding and confidence.
