i bred them for years and they can be very protective if allowed to be ... and are famous for being one owner dogs ... if you want these traits out you do have to insist your dog be friendly all along not just when a baby hits the scene and feels like an intruder. yorkies will bond so deeply with one person they will starve to death if that person leaves them ...they do not rehome easily takes years to rebuild their trust. very smart loyal protectors. poeple often thiink protection is "cute" in pups and young dogs but the dog isnt kidding..this behavior needs nipped in the BUTT at the very beginning not laughed at..they need to be made to think you are their protector not the other way round. darcy, ps chi's too..

My mother's Yorkie and Bogie my chi are best buds. I don't know where she read that but it was one of those sweeping general statements that lump together and label to the detriment of the dog Would need more of the story to understand why the Yorkie went after the baby. My girlfriend has one and it tried to go after the baby and she did some reading and it said that Yorkies NEVER get a long with other dogs unless they have been raised together. This just seems odd to me.
