Yeah it differs. Bogie never lost his coat at all. Thinned a little but he
has a very very thick and long coat

An experienced breeder can tell a long coat when first born but usually
around 3 mos, they start to lose their long coat and it takes a couple of
months for it to start growing back.
I am assuming it differs with each dog and I am just trying to give you a
time frame for the process.

As babies, long coats lose their coat and look like a short coat Chi until
their coat starts growing back at around 6 mos to a year. Most have their
full coat by 2 yrs. of age. Long coats shed less than short coats. They
wear sweaters well and can tolerate cold somewhat better. Depending on the
dog, some long coats have thicker and longer coats than others. I think my
Emiliano is a medium length long coat.

I've read the long coat is easy to care for. Is this true?
I like the look of a longhair however my husband is kind of partial to the
short coat. I like either.

Are long-haired Chihuahuas able to handle the cold or cool situations
better?
How are they with sweaters?
Do some vary in their adult length & abundance of coat?
Is the undercoat shed spring & fall? - like a collie?
