Dear Jacqueline, About three weeks ago I rescued a little chi from a shelter. I
only had about three minutes with her.  She seemed very shy and sweet.  I had
know idea if she was potty trained or anything she was very small about 5 lbs.
I knew someone had to save her.  So the next day I brought her home. She didn't
eat much and she was very scared. To my surprise she was 100 % potty
trained. The shelter did have her spayed and all shots and one free vet
exam. Three day later I brought her to her free exam.  Dr. thought she was
about 18 months and had never had babies.  She was also tested for parasites
and was clean.  The vet did find a very bad back tooth and gum disease around
the tooth.  I had it taken care of right away.  She feels so much better she is
eating better and so sweet.  The tooth did cost me $485.00.  It was worth every
penny. I will try to attach a picture.  If I were you I would just go for it
you know much more about
your dog than I did mine.  My dog was just a stray and that’s all they knew. I
am so happy with my new dog Lola.  Valerie

I was talking to her foster parent tonight.  Lilly's from the States - from a
high kill shelter and has had a litter.  The foster mom says she thinks she's
just 2 but they don't know for sure.  She is 11 lbs.  Has great teeth.  Has
passed all the health tests.  Is not an alpha = not in your face & a bit
submissive.  Can jump over barriers like a deer. Is not food aggressive.  Is
not hyper but not laied-back either - well she is a young dog so I'm not
surprised.  She hasn't learned to ask out yet and isn't pee-pad trained at
all.  She holds it.  She doesn't pee when nervous.

Well we had a long talk for sure.  I still have to wait for the home visit and
the referrals to pass before they let me be with her.  I think the Foster Mom
is up for bringing her here to meet my birds - so I can see if she will have
issues.  She's with a pack of pugs right now and 2 cats.  She likes to play
with the younger cat.  With next to no training she is Ok on the leash but she
pulls - I can fix that one quite quickly I think with the training I've had.

We're still thinking.  I am OK with 11 lbs.  I think my husband wants a Chi -
no mix and about 6 lbs.  I am thinking - full steam ahead or wait????  It will
be a fun few days.

Thanks for all the support.

She’s beautiful.  J  I hope you get to adopt her.  I have two Chihuahuas at
home and both are from rescue groups.

I have put in a request for an adopted dog from a rescue.  She is a Merle short
hair.  She is at the Rat-terrier rescue and they think she is part Ratter.  She
looks like a Chi.  They don't say her size or age - I'll be talking to her
foster mom soon.  My grandmother had a Ratter - great dog.

I was just reading about the Merle.  Some of you have them.  Do you know if
deafness and blindness is there right at the beginning, if it is there, or if
it is something that comes on?  Has this ever been a concern of yours?

I've been looking around at the rescue dogs in my area and she really
interested me.  Because she is a rescue she will be neutered and that is OK by
me.

They say that Merle Chi's are not pure-bred and are all on the large size.
Here's Lilly.   She doesn't look big - but in the end that isn't a factor for
us.
