Thanks Deanna for the link. They have those at Petsmart to. I wanted something very light weight, and most importantly I want the availability to have 4 lines on a small tag. I wanted my full address and, phone, her name,DOB . The Petsmart one allow 4 lines on both side and they give you a self stick plastic cover to prevent the print from wearing off. So I will see how long they last. Dingo only allows 3 lines and some only on one side for the small size.
Your probably think I am crazy, but I even marked it 'spayed'. The reason is that dogs that are in a shelter or rescues have no way of knowing if the dog is spayed or not, because you can't always see a scar as the dog ages. The Vet couldn't tell if Princess was spayed or not and I had to wait a couple of months to see if she went into heat, which she did. She got spayed and it's been 4 years and I can't see the scar any where. I have also heard that many rescued females are unnecessarily opened up only to find out that they were spayed. Bear in mind the shelters and rescues will not release a dog unless it is spayed, and they are not going to hold a dog to see if it goes into heat. The newsiest thing now is that some Vets are tattooing their spayed patients, because of this. So I figured it can't hurt to put it on their tags with their age. Tattooing for you name, etc is good too, except for the fact that their is not a Universal Site to track the tattoo number like they can with a micro-chip, that I am aware of. My vet would not micro-chip Gigi because of her size unless she was under anesthesia, so I had everything done at the same time. I knew that their is a chance of a side reaction from micro-chips, but that has only been found in a small percentage of dogs. For me the security of knowing I have a chance of getting them back, out weighs the thought of them being on death row in a shelter if they ever got them. ♥ Peggy & The Girls ♥ -----Original Message----- From: Deanna Corey <[email protected]> To: Chihuahuas <[email protected]> Sent: Sat, Nov 27, 2010 3:16 pm Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] ID collars and Microchips Hi Peggy...the ID tags I LOVE are the Red Dingo...they are stainless steel...very durable yet totally adorable...you can order them right on line and they come to your door... go to http://cgi.ebay.com/Red-Dingo-Dog-Cat-ID-Tag-SMALL-New-Designs-Available-/170406015241?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27acfd7109 scroll down and pick the design and color you like...I have small for the Chi's...Mouse has the brown peace sign and Myrtle has the pink butterfly. How many of you keep a collar on your dogs with an ID tag at all times? How many of you have all your dogs Micro chipped, regardless how small they are? Putting an ID on Gigi was done the same day that I got her. Good thing too, because she constantly tries to squeeze out the door after me. For a while, with training, she stopped that and would listen, but every once in a while she tries again. She is so fast at it too, no matter how careful I am. I am always worried that one of these days she is going to get her head slammed in the door. She has cost me to drop groceries and the garbage all over the place a couple of times. She's like lightening to get at the door and follow me! For Princess I had to do it right away too, because if I open the door and she sees a squirrel, she's gone. But now she listens well and stays in the chair by the window when I go out. Both of them got micro chipped right away too. I am a firm believer in both. Deanna's- Madison is a perfect example as to how many dogs never find their way back home. She's lucky, many are not. I remember last year when CA had those fires for so long....the SPCA said the main reason why so many dogs were never put back with their owners is because they were not microchipped and didn't have ID's on them. So their was no way to trace the displaced owners to their pets. You never know when an emergency is going to happen and your dog should be protected at all times, especially during the night, since that is when most emergencies do happen. The other reason why dogs are not reunited with their owners, even when they are micro-chipped is because the owners don't get on their computers and update the chip with new addressess and phone numbers. Also, it is very important to make sure that the chip is registered with the two UNIVERSAL SITES, and not just with the company that manufactures the chip. Here are the links for that, just in case some of you are not aware of that. http://www.petmicrochiplookup.org/Default.aspx http://www.checkthechip.com/HelpPage.aspx I just had two more ID's made at Petsmart. I love their machine! They can put 4 lines of info on each side of their ID's including the tiny ones for our little chi's! And they are only $7.50 each. Best deal that I found around! Now I have an ID on all of their collars, and don't have to go crazy, putting the ID's on and off every time I want to change their collars. When I walk the girls, I use a harness, but those collars with their ID will stay on them 24/7! ♥ Peggy & The Girls ♥
