If Gails yard isn't fenced in, maybe this would help too. When I go to the
chi-meetups that are held at a dog park, we use those expandable gates and
block off a very large section just for the chi's. They do have a Large dog
run and a small dog run, but a several small dogs of 20-25 pounds can still
be a bit much for a chi.

The gates are very sturdy and you con configure them into any shape since
they come in sections.

Taking a head count is a great idea too! I too had a car seat for Gigi and
she didn't like it. She would shake uncontrollable, so now she goes into her
carrier and she is just fine. It must make her feel more secure, due to the
movement of the car.

I know my girlfriend Gail just called me and we both talked about it because
we are such over protective moms that we never would of thought something
like this could ever happen to US! So it is a good lesson for me to also not
judge others as things can happen and we need to share with our friends so
it does not happen to anyone else. I just know an Angel was watching over
her and I said a long pray of gratitude to God and thanked him for keeping
an eye on my baby. We also made a pack that when we have the girls out side
as soon as the door is closed we are going to do a head count. Thank
goodness Maggie has a huge set of lungs so that we were able to hear that
she was in trouble.
thanks alot - nancy and the girls

Nancy, this could happen to anyone. I am such a stickler when it comes to my
dogs. I watch them like hawks but one time I was helping my brother put
something in his car. He left my front door ajar just a tiny bit, which I
didn't notice. Well, it was enough for my tiny chi to push open and get out.
Well, thank God I noticed right away. She was close to the road though (not
a busy road but it only takes one car) sniffing the ground. I picked her up
immediately and for the rest of the day my heart was in my stomach. It only
takes a second and we are only human.

I always thought that people that lost their dogs were awful and not careful
and irresponsible. Well I have to share what happened to me last night so
that it will make everyone aware of how easy something like this can happen.

I was at my dear friends house Gail and we were exchanging some Christmas
dresses for our girls. Gail has a big front yard with a hedge all the way
around it and we took the girls out to go potty. We called them in and they
all ran in. Gail and I were talking about the gifts and our babies and all
of a sudden I heard Maggie cry - at first I thought as she has a large home
that she got stuck somewhere. So Gail, her son, husband and I all went on a
frantic search. I said I think it came from outside even though I saw her
come in. We went outside and sitting on the middle of the lawn was my baby
Maggie, shaking and scared. The only thing that we can figure out what
happened is before we shut the door she ran back outside. I was mortified
and so was Gail as we have always considered our selves such good dog
parents.

Thank God that an angel was watching over my little girl or she could of
been gone forever. So during this busy time during the holidays make sure
that you keep an extra close eye on your babies with people coming in and
out.

I did not share this story to get any lectures as I already feel terrible
and cried my self to sleep last night, but if my story can make you more
aware of how easy this can happen then it is worth it.

So like my mother use to tell me never say never....
Nancy, Abbey-Rose and Maggie-Mae
