I'm a nurse, and I too take an aspirin daily.  In fact, unless there is some
reason you can't take aspirin, I highly recommend an aspirin a day, starting in
your early forty's.  Whenever we suspect someone even might be having a heart
attack, the very first thing we do is give them a baby aspirin to chew.  So
unless you are already on a blood thinner, or have an allergy, I highly
recommend them.  I'm to the point I freak out if I run out.

Thank God that you went to ER and you are young right? See that is the other
thing is in women the symptoms present very different in women than in men.
Sadly, that is why so many women die from this disease. I always keep baby
aspirin by my bed and any time I feel any type of chest or arm pain, I take
one. I should just take one every day. I worked in a hospital for years and
analyzed all the clinical data, one aspirin can save so many lives. I tracked
how long it took when a patient came to ER with any heart symptoms and the time
it took to get aspirin. I am so happy that you are hear with us! That must of
been so scarry. Nan

Hi Nancy and all

you mention heart disease... yup I know all about it. in 2005 I had a heart
attack, but i call it an angina attack. it was not a knock down, out like a
light type of attack. Angina is pain that goes down your left arm when you move
around. I had that for a week, still working daily, not thinking much about it,
until one of the mornings, just to get out of bed, hurt like ever... my left
arm veins popping out big as life and hurting!!!!!!!! that is when I had to go
to the emergency room. it turned out I had 2 arteries that were near closed
from plaque build up. one artery was 99.9%closed and one was 98% closed.
doctors said one more day or so and I would have had a massive heart attack.
anyway... its been almost 6 years and so far so good. I still take aspirin
daily. was on plavix for 4 years.

Friends,
I am all for you getting healthy. Do you know heart disease is the number one
killer of women, three times more than breast cancer. So do it for your health
is all I am saying. I just hate when every where you look there are women that
you know only eat lettuce and society says that is beautiful. When I was
growing up I do not even think they had a size 0! Marilyn Monroe was a size 14
and she did pretty good for herself. So just do it for the right reason not
because you do not think you are beautiful or because society says we should be
sticks, we are women and we are made to have curves - that is part of our
beauty. Eating right, exercise, don't smoke or drink in excess and you will be
okay and love your self. Nan and the girls

Carol, congratulations on your new Chi baby.  I once weighed 118 pounds after
losing 80 pounds.  Within 18 months, I gained it all back and then some.  I now
weigh 201 according to the doctor this morning.  I am 5' 3".  DH and I would
walk a mile a day until winter started and it became difficult.  Holidays don't
help.  I don't have the willpower anymore.  I would be willing to join and try
to lose weight again with everyone's help and encouragement and vise versa.

Deanna that is a great idea!!! Really great. I lost about eighty pounds a few
years ago and it came back a lot faster than if left. I am now taking meds
twice a day plus an injection. I take 7 pills in the morning and another 4 in
the evening. My cholesterol and BP is way too high even on meds. My mother died
along with her two siblings in their early ages. Mom was 58 just three years
older than me. I am scared but I lack motivation on my own.

I think a side group is a great idea. We can pick a weigh in day and post
results weekly. And on a daily basis we can tell of our challenges and
pitfalls. We can encourage each other and  reach out when we need a helper to
stop us from cheating.

What do you think?

Also  I just got home with Maxwell (Maxx) the new boy chi. He is very scared
and in hiding right now in a free standing pen I set up to acclimating him in
slowly. He was in a cage for the last 11 months so freedom is something he
doesn't know. He of course bit me once while I was trying to crate him, but all
is well.
As soon as I can snap a picture I well.

I know what you mean about the chi's watching the TV with you. I do the same.
Last night we watched the biggest loser and it really motivated me. I am on
more meds than I care to count and I believe half at least could go if I only
dropped this extra weight.

We are starting tomorrow and going until Spring Break mid April. We all show up
the first day with a $10 gift card. The person who loses the most percentage
wins the pile of gift cards. I can"t wait to spend my gift cards!!! lol

My mom is doing something similar to that at her work.  They’ve got a money pot
going to see who will lose the largest percentage of weight by sometime in
April.  The chis and I have started also watching this new reality TV show
called Heavy.  It comes on Monday nights on A and E channel.  I saw the first
episode Monday night and just cried for the people on that show because their
lives were so effected by their weight.  But by the end of the show they were
happy and working towards their goal of losing weight and looked awesome.  I
was so happy for them.  Of course the chis couldn’t figure out why mommy was
laughing and crying at the same time.  Jack was really confused, poor little
guy.

Don't feel bad I am starting the biggest loser at work tomorrow. I am hoping to
drop at least fifty pounds! Maybe I should worry about my weight as much as I
worry about my chi's! Then I can take a lot medicine.

For some reason it makes me feel better to know that our little ones have
trouble just like us when it comes to losing weight.  This is somewhat off
topic for this group but I started a new years resolution to lose weight this
year and I can tell it’s getting close to lunch time because I’m hungry.
Weight never seems to come off as easily as it came on…..sigh

I have rescued several overweight chi"S and put them on diets straight away.
Actually the little boy I am picking up will go on one too. Being overweight is
very hard on their little frames and has some serious health risks. Not to
mention it shortens their lifespan.

That being said I feed mine half their allotted amount in the am and half again
in the pm. If they seems to be hungry still I might give them a few pieces in
the mid-day. I have them that range from 2.85 to 7 pounds and none of mine have
had a single problem.

Hope this help ease your mind.

ok this is day 3 of Gurgis diet he is really overweight but i am afraid that he
is going to go hypoglycemic on me with such strict feeding. Should i worry
about this? I am so worried about his weight he is so fat. He is banned from
all people food and he gets a single kibble for a treat and when he gets really
crazy for food. Is it too late to get in on the secret pal? thank you Aimi and
