No one missed the point Deanna, this is exactly what Nancy said. "That is what I have been doing for the last few walks and all my neighbors and coming out saying what are you doing to her - you are dragging that little baby, but I just say she is in training.... you are right she will get tired of being dragged and figure it out." So yes she is dragging the dog. There are tons of ways to get a dog to walk on the leash with you w/o dragging and making them more fearful. Loose leash comes to mind. Insight is what people post. Read back!! And honestly doing something a positive and gentle way is a far cry from bribing and wishy washy!!!!!

I really think you missed the point. NO one said a word about dragging!!! Please give more credit here than that!!! But i will tell you a dog needs to know you are serious about a walk...not wishy-washy...not "hoping" he will go with you...but he needs to know what you EXPECT of him and playing little bribing games doesn't hack it!!! I would hope you all had enough insight about the women on this group to know that no one...especially sweet, catering Nancy...would ever drag their dogs!!!! It needs to be a pleasant event. you might try this: walk her on the leash in the house, where she knows where she is. make it fun. you can throw treats down on the ground in front of her, so she has to take a step or 2 to get it. Some Puppies have a hard time walking someplace they have never been. the big world scares them. Let her drag the leash around the house also. just to get use to it. she needs to know the leash is a good pleasant thing. My Ricky I do not think was ever put on a leash and taken anywhere by his previous owners. He had no clue what a leash was. He is still trying to ajust to riding in the car! I mean most dogs get all excited when they see the leash! not Ricky when I got him... but now, he turns circles when I ask him if he wants to go out for a walk! he helps me now put his harness on. he stand very still with his head up ready for me to put it over his head. He lifts his leg up so i can snap it closed. he waits patiently for me to clip the leash onto the harness.... and off we go!! he does have his moments on walks where he wants to go in another direction than me. so he will pull the leash, and be in a backward position trying to get me to go "that way"... I just stop, and stand my ground, and tell him NO... we are going this way. he gives up soon and on our way we go. His directions takes me on the lawn, up small hills etc. Shanna & Ricky Las Vegas Nevada!! My Chi Ricky... I think it s high time you just simply embrace the fact that you have never owned a dog before...not a dog like Miss Magoo Butt anyway! She seems to be her own breed...her own little bundle of sweetness. She has her own way and her own mind. Lol!! If it were me I would just celebrate her differences, spoil her rotten and give her whatever she wants and have no expectations......No You say? Lol..no really I am just kidding...you know I wouldn't do that...and I know you wouldn't either but it does sound much easier huh?? Now on a more serious note...maybe if she knows you are serious about a walk. No bending over cajoling her...talking baby talk...bribing etc. Just put that leash on her...no talking to her about it...and standing straight and tall and look forward...move forward...in a deliberate manner so that she knows Mama is making the choice to go for a walk...don't wait for her to move...don't stop for her. I would give her one command in the beginning..."let's go" and then go. Maybe not fast...but purposefully. You stop when you are ready to stop. Right now it sounds like my little Magoo girl is running the show...again! After a few times when she realizes this is not her choice...her decision...she might just go with the program. That's what I would do with her! Then when she gets it...WHEN she goes with the program...I would make a huge deal out of it!! Just my thoughts... Wagging Tails in the Dog Park!
