And they are sooooo cute. I live in a HOA community and we can have a maximum of two dogs. I have Dolly & Desi.
This morning, the neighbor across the street called me to find out where the shelter was. I looked it up and gave him the address and phone number. He said they want to get a playmate for their male Maltese. So when I was on the site, I saw all those poor little dogs that are probably scrunched up in little kennels..sooo sad indeed. I got Dolly at a pet store (Petland) and she was just so cuddly and just wanted to lay against my chest. My intentions of going to the pet store was so that I could see what kind of dog might be best for me from the shelter. Dolly was stuck to me like glue and it took two hours for me to have to make the decision of what to do. But, Dolly won my heart over and she still does. She was a very sweet girl, and after I had three back surgeries in the summer of 2009, I wanted to get her a playmate because I really couldn't be playing with her as much. I was afraid that the dogs in the shelter might have big attitude problems and didn't want Dolly to be scared. So I made the decision to get a puppy and I thought Dolly would be such a good big sister and I could just picture her preening the puppy and being so loving. Desi was a thorn in her Alpha side. The first six or seven months were horrible here. I thought Dolly was trying to kill Desi; Desi would keep going back to Dolly no matter how much she snarled at him. There would be some milestones such as when Dolly would let Desi sit next to her for a picture; the first time that they fell asleep next to each other; the first time that I could put them both in the booster seat together without the possibility of one of them being killed by the other on the way. Dolly was actually most likely 'Chihuahua talking' him to let him know the rules. It is so funny that our brains take a while to remember that the things that were bad had disappeared. They still will have a little spat, and usually it is Dolly scolding him when he does something bad. She used to come to me and cry and then I would follow her and she would show me where one of my shoes were because Desi was a BIG Shoe Thief. She would come to me and show me where Desi pooped in the middle of the living room.such a little tattletale.but a very beautiful, wonderful, caring little girl! Most of them are males. I wish that they would ship them to the east coast again, since so many people here want Chi's and other toy breeds. -------Original Message------- From: Joan Croft <mailto:[email protected]> Date: 1/29/2011 4:53:00 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Chihuahuas] Shanna - Gotta See this http://www.animalfoundation.com/our-services/adoption/before-you-adopt/find- your-new-pet/adoption-search/ I did a search on small dogs.about the 5th or 6th one down is a little Chihuahua named Rio..sooo cute.
