I know you would not look down on anyone Joan and I remember reading about
all the hard times you and others on this list have had and I think that is
why it shocked me so much when people got so mean with Marsha about her
hearing loss and her finances.

My Uncle married a lady that is totally deaf. She is the most wonderful
person I know. She is the one that taught me sign language since I spent a
lot of time at her house growing up. Her oldest son is severely mentally
disabled and has the mind of a 4 year old, she taught her kids sign language
at a very early age. So myself, my brother and my sister are all very good
at sign language.

As a matter of fact my sister who is an RN also interprets sign language in
meetings, seminars etc.. They pay her excellent money to do it too.

My brother dated a gal whose sister was deaf. She drove and would have the
radio on because she could feel the vibrations. She did not talk real
clear, but it was understandable. She was a wonderful artist and painted a
portrait of our Chihuahua/Fox Terrier from a photograph.

I don't know sign language. But, I know it is a valuable tool for both
those with hearing and those without. I had a friend who was taking the
baby (not hearing deprived) to a class that was just for parents and babies.
They were learning sign language for things such as bottle, milk, eye, ears,
and also animals and other familiar things to children. A baby's mind is
like a sponge and it didn't take too long for the mother and baby to sign to
each other those basics.

As I wrote a huge message the other day about my disability, I would never
look down on anyone because of disability. I used to work with
developmentally disabled adults. One day I needed the typewriter in one of
the rooms and while I was typing I was amazed. A group of three or four DD
Adults, some were Downs, and some were not. They were discussing the
headlines in the newspaper the same as a very learned adult would. God
makes little challenges, but he leaves enough room for us all to shine
through.

When I was 18 months I had the measles then before they were gone I got the
mumps. I lost nerves in both my ears. I have what they call a nerve deafness
and it is profound. I was already talking and watching lips when this
happened to me. I am an excellent lip reader and have good speech. However,
If someone is talking to me and I am not facing them, I can hear them
talking but can't distinguish what they are saying. Phones are very hard
for me and the older I get the worse it gets. There are people that were
born deaf but still learned how to speak through therapy. You don't need to
hear through bone conduction or vibration. I am also very good with sign
language having parents that believed in both ways.

Shanna,

If someone is deaf, it does not mean that they are mute also.

Some people become deaf from some incident that happens when they are not a
baby. If that person learned to talk, they retain how to talk. She said
she has a special phone for the deaf, so perhaps she is legally deaf but has
a little hearing that the special phones help her to hear via bone
conduction or something. Perhaps she also has some hearing aids that have
brought her hearing to a tiny bit, which is better than nothing. I did go
almost deaf when I was 12. You know how I knew what people were saying?
Reading lips is how. To this day, if I am talking to someone in person, I
am reading their lips at the same time.

I am not making an opinion of what is going on with the puppies, just trying
to let you know that just because a great deal of people that are deaf may
have special devices where they can hear very little, and also that if that
person went deaf somewhere in their lives, they can still talk and if they
still have vision, they can read lips.

YOU ARE AN ATTORNEY AND YOUR DEAF??

UMMM there is something wrong with this picture!

<Im deaf so i dont hear it.> <I ama liscenced atty. I know law if nothing
else>

how did you communicate with this buyer if your deaf?

<We had already arranged pick up of the pup on Sunday so when I met her we
discussed the cold. She did not have to take the pup but I told her, if
she wants it, take it to the vet and if the vet says anything is wrong,
she can return it and I will give her her money back. Monday I called her
to see what the vet said.

How did you hear her on the phone if your deaf? Your not telling the truth
and your waisting our time here.

AND IF SHE GAVE YOU A BILL, YOU WOULD KNOW WHO THE VET WAS. DAH!

sorry but I think your "puffing" about this whole thing.

And i do take respobsibility. Give md my pup back and it will get treated.
Idk whats going on. They will not even tell me eho the vet is. Im suppise to
just trust her. Im suppose to give her free reign to give me any bill and me
pay it? No. If she wants to take the pup to my vet, ill do that. If she
wants a refund, ill do that. Ill even keep the pup till it is fine then give
it back. But I will not pay her vet bills and yoy will not find a breeder
anywhere who would. The pup was coughing accoeding to others. Im deaf so i
dont hear it. But the buyer called me sunday nite said "pup is coughing" my
mom tells me "yes pup was cauoghing not much but some" now my vet had said
pup was fine. I had no reason to think otherwise. But buyer says coughing my
mom says yes coughing so i say ok bring it back ill give you youf money
back. Buyer says no we will see whar vet says. Next day buyer dont contact
me but i xontact her becayse i worry. Buyer says oh vet said it has
btoncitis but will be fine. Again i ask her to bring it back. Agsin shr says
no. Now it is 5 days later and she calls snd says still voughing. So agsin i
sat bring it back sgain she says no.

Btw before anyone wznts to be s jerk re my typos im on my ph anx goy tired
of vackspacing do u get what u get

lol!! Marsha...it is very important for you to pay these vet bills for a few
reasons. First you have to understand that I am pro- breeder...I stick up
for them all the time when discussions arise about why it is not politically
correct to be a breeder at a time when the shelters are so full. I will
never judge you for breeding. But...I would love to see you take
responsibility for this pup as well as the other ones that got sick with
colds. Because? Because it is the right thing to do. You have an obligation
to that pup and that owner because you let a pup go to a home when it was
not 100% healthy. As a poodle breeder...as a believer...as an animal
lover...I would. It is the right thing to do...forget your contract for a
minute...forget about what others do or dont do. You obviously know in your
heart what is right. You are asking us to validate something for you that
you cannot validate for yourself...think...just for a minute...what is right
for that pup...what is the responsible course of action to take. Good
breeders...good people stand by their animals for life. Something I would
like to share with you...I stopped breeding poodles...not because the
shelters were full...not because I think breeding is wrong...but because I
am at my limit. My heart tells me that I am responsible for all those
poodles out there that I brought into this world. Your heart...if you
listen...will tell you the same thing. I am not telling you to not
breed...but I am saying you are responsible. If you get to the point that
you don't want to be responsible...or can't...for each and every dog you
bring into this world...then it is time to stop breeding. Just my 2 cents. I
know you got jumped on...it was harsh...I personally would be in tears. You
asked for opinions and you got slammed. But...really look past the initial
owie this is to what these people are saying. They are not being
gracious...they are hard. But if you can look past their initial response
there is a great message. Take responsibility!

with a minor illness) absolutely should not be changing homes - until it is
first well again - even if an eager, uneducated buyer is willing to take it.
Although I can guess, I don't know how young you consider a Chihuahua puppy
as being "ready to go" or how you raise your dogs. However, IMHO, the name
of the game in Chihuahua breeding is doing what is best for the Chihuahuas
and not just making a sale.

at least $2,000 set aside for emergency expenses. Even with a free whelping
line, you never know when a C-section might be needed. And that is just one
of many unforeseen complications which can happen when you breed Chihuahuas.
