What is the little guy’s name going to be?

Is he a puppy or adult?

When you say that you have an 8 yo dog that will be nice to him, just remember
that your 8 yo dog is the alpha dog in your house, and if it happens the way it
did when I got Desi and thought that Dolly would be the perfect dog to be nice
to any other, it didn’t turn out that way and it did take many months…but happy
to say they love each other and play with each other all the time now.

If the dog is a puppy, then you will need some puppy food, and also a harness
and leash for walks.

Hi Folks,

I went to the shelter last week and found a beautiful little chihuahua that I
wanted. So, since I'm a senior, I paid only half price for my little guy. I
don't have him yet. The shelter couldn't get him neutered for seven days - no
vet available!!! So I can't pick up my new little guy until 4:00 Thursday. I'm
so excited, but won't he be still a little sedated? What should I expect and
what should I do? I have his bed ready with new blankets; I have his eating
rarea eady with doggie water bowl and eating bowl.

I've already made an appointment with the vet for a week after I get him - for
his free check up.

Can you guys give me any advice? I already have an 8 year old dog who will be
nice to him.

Any advice y'all can give me will be appreciated.

Welcome Patti and Gus-Gus (really cute). My name is Linda and my Chi is Taylor.

Sorry I don't have any advice about the food though.

Hugs,
Linda and Taylor

Hi,

I just joined the list after purchasing my first Chihuahua this past
Thursday, a little boy that I think I will be naming Gus-Gus. He is about 4
months old and was pee pad trained when I got him. No accidents so far! I
live in eastern upstate New York, so it will be quite a while before he will
be able to get outside.

His breeder fed him Chicken Soup for the Puppy Dog Soul puppy food and gave
me several samples, but he is not eating it too well. I have other dogs (a
Greyhound, a Pug and 2 Chinese Crested) and he keeps sneaking into their
food and having at it. I've moved him into a different room to encourage him
to eat his own food, but he just sits and looks at it. Any one have any
ideas? I wasn't sure if I should try to wait him out or relent and let him
eat what he wants. Any suggestions for a different puppy food that he might
like better? I'm worried he will get diarrhea from changing foods. When I
tried mixing it as the breeder suggested, he just picks out the adult dog
food nuggets and ignores his puppy food. Little stinker!

Other than that, the transition has been pretty smooth. He is crate trained
already and sleeps beside my bed in his crate without a peep all night. I'm
totally in love with him and looking forward to many years with him.

Thanks for letting me join the list, and I look forward to getting to know
you all and any advice you have for a first time Chihuahua owner.
