It seems kind of silly to go and buy some I/D Science diet for diarrhea. Most diarrhea is of a short nature. If it is a long and constant thing then there are underlying issues.

I am not a big fan of Pepto Bismol i do not think it works well for dogs with diarrhea. I would try chicken and rice or I/D and make sure the pet is free of parasites. If that is not working i would have the pet seen.
