I have the 36" x-pen and Desi jumped over it when the bed was on the other
side, but has never tried to jump over it with nothing except floor on the
other side. But once when he was very young, I had been gone and when I
came into the Master Bathroom, Desi was standing on top of his soft crate
and had one of his paws on the fence.I got there in time and then I took the
crate out of his area and just put another dog bed in there instead.

I started Dolly in her 'gated community' when I got her. That is where I
would put her when I go out. She has a puppy pad, food, water, bed, toys,
etc. When I got Desi, I bought another pen and put it in the master
bathroom where he has everything also.

When I go out, they both run to their 'gated communities' and get the little
treat telling them that I will be home as soon as I am done. They love it.

Now, I did try to put Dolly is Desi's area for about 5 minutes while I was
getting clothes out of the dryer and the carpet was wet. I came back and
Dolly was so upset and she pooped all over the floor in Desi's area. I have
tried putting Desi in Dolly's area if I dropped something glass and I need
to clean it up (Dolly is close to the kitchen) and he has a fit because he
doesn't want to be in there. I am thinking of trying to move Desi's pen
closer to Dolly so that when I go out they will be by each other, but
separated because Dolly is a free-feeder and Desi is a vacuum cleaner. I am
not sure that is going to work though, because they are both very
territorial right now.

I kept Emiliano in a pen until I could trust that he was not going to chew
up the house. I still put him in there at night and when people he doesn't
know or like come over (the cleaning lady for one). I keep his sleeping
tent, a water bowl, toys, and the litter box in there and lucky for me,
never once has he tried to climb over..
