Taking your 8 week-old puppy's food away is terrible advice. He so needs nutrients at this time to keep his blood sugar levels stable. Please consider the recent posts of the people on this group to save your puppy's life. They are well informed and possess great knowledge about dogs, puppies, your current vet does not.
