My daughter's 8 year old poodle, my Granddog Sammi, just had a $900 surgery for
luxating patellas. She is doing well and I hope that's the last of her need
for surgeries. She had a little cyst removed, a few years ago, from the side
of her foot, it turned out to be cancer and they had to remove a toe too, that
was over $1,000. Of course that's in addition to her regular vet care,
medications, and grooming so keping my Granddog going has cost us a lot of
money.

Hi Kari,

Welcome to the group, it was nice to see your chihuahua crew. I live alone with
my 6 chihuahuas (Nyala 17, Timon 12, Sweetie 7, Rosie 6, Teddie 6, and Sunshine
6) in Northern California. Where do you live?

Sorry to hear about Pollies enlarged heart, I have learned to live with mine
having luxating patellas, back problems and collapsing wind pipe. Just wasn't
expecting the heart murmur.

Love,
Eileen and chi babies

Hi Eileen,
I just joined the group today. My name is Kari. I live alone with my 5
Chihuahuas--Piper, Pollie, Presley, Peyton and Paris.

Pollie was born with all kinds of deformities and I didn't know until she was
about 8 months old that she was so messed up. She was born with deformed hips,
legs, knees, trachea, spine and an enlarged heart. I just found out about the
heart problem last year. She's had two hip surgeries so that she can walk. Her
heart is so large it takes up more than 50% of her chest cavity. She's on
Enalapril for her heart every day and so far she's doing well. She's got a
murmer too. I understand how you feel about your baby. if she only had the
heart murmer and not the giant heart, my vet said she could live for many years
to come like that.

Pollie is the smallest white Chi.

Kari

I visited the vet this morning, for a regular check-up with Timon who is 12
almost 13 in a couple of months. She discovered that he has a very slight heart
murmur and she said that it was nothing to worry about, but I can't not worry
about it because he is my baby or my husband (who passed away last year) would
always say he was momma's boy. Having to do with the fact that I have loved and
nurtured Timon ever since he was rescued at 6 weeks of age, he has been the one
to stick by my side and decided that he was the man of the house since my
husband passed away last year. I just can't take anything happening to him
right now or any of my other chi babies.
