Hi Naomi…welcome to the group.

My name is Joan and I have two Chihuahuas – Dolly Dee my fawn female who
just turned two on May 20th; and Desi Lou my chocolate tri mail who will be
two on August 19th. We live in North Las Vegas, NV.

I got both of mine when they were 8 weeks old. Dolly was sick with a
respiratory infection when I got her…she loved to be held and rocked. When
she was feeling better we would play on the floor, I would throw her toys
and she ran and got them and then brought them back for me to throw again.
She looooooves attention. She will sit by my side or lay by my side and
loves for me to give her tummy tickles, tickles under her arms, etc. She
thrives on attention. Desi was fine when I got him, and because I wanted
Dolly to bond with him, I tried to stay out of the picture for the first
couple of weeks. Every once in a while I would hear his little crying which
eventually turned into barking because he was looking for ME…he wanted me to
hold him and kiss him too. They both thrive on attention and affection.
But, that doesn’t mean that all are that way. Your puppy was with another
family for a while and there could have been something from that home that
makes her be more aloof. However, you have had her for over 2 months, so
you would think that she would have adapted to you and the way you love her
and want to play with her by now.

Food…it actually depends what kind of food that you are feeding her. My two
eat kibble only. As I remember, puppies eat almost as much food as an adult
dog. As long as you keep the food in her bowl and she doesn’t get hungry
without you feeding her again, then she is probably getting enough. I would
just worry a little if she started to get a little too much fat on her. My
two are 7 – 8 lean pounds each. They each eat ¼ cup of kibble in the
morning and ¼ cup of kibble in the evening. So that makes the ½ cup that
you are feeding your puppy. So if all things are created equal, she really
is eating enough food. It is hard to imagine the little bit that they can
eat because they are so tiny compared to us, but the small amount that she
eats is fine.

Please post some pictures…and what is your little girl’s name?

Hi, my name is Naomi and I just bought me an adorable Chihuahua on May 9th.
When I bought her the people said she was 9 weeks old. They bought her from
someone else and decided that they couldn’t handle a puppy. It was a little
weird when I went to see her because when I knocked they didn’t come out the
front door, they came out from the side of the house just holding her with
nothing else. No bed, toys, blanket, food and no shot records. They just
handed her to me and took the money. I was a little suspicious but I wanted
her so bad.

I immediately took her to the vet and thank God she was checked out okay.
She got her first set of shots and a nice warm bath on the same day.

I have two questions for you “Chihuahua experts”. One, I drown her with
affection constantly, hugging her, kissing her, scratching her tummy, but
she seems kind of indifferent to me. She loves to play but the affection
she acts like she could do without. Are all Chihuahuas like that? Also,
she doesn’t eat very much. I serve her once in the morning and that’s it.
It takes her the whole day into late night to finish that one bowl of food.
And it’s not a big bowl of food. The bowl is very small so I would say less
than ½ cup. Is this normal? She’s been to the vet twice and she went from
2.8lbs. to 3.5lbs. That’s a good sign. Feedback please??????
