Hi Eileen.

I am not married and I had lived with my Mom until she passed away in April of
2008. I got Dolly in July 2008 after I moved from California to North Las
Vegas, NV.

Dolly pretty much put me on the map as far as people talking to me and becoming
good friends. I had no human children and Dolly meant the world to me. I had
been placed on Permanent Disability by my spine surgeon, but I was not getting
any income but had a pending Social Security Disability application. I
couldn’t afford much and so I just took some of my time and a little creativity
and Dolly’s Birthday Party was a big hit.

Maybe five months later, Mr. Desi Lou came to live in this house and be
personally trained by Dolly…what she yapped at him, he listened. At Christmas,
I got them some puzzle toys and interactive toys, some blankets, etc. When
Dolly’s birthday rolled around this year, I had just had a brain tumor removed
so she didn’t have anything from me. The vet’s office where they were being
boarded had a balloon and human cupcake, and they posted the picture on their
website. Just a couple weeks ago I went to PetSmart and I couldn’t buy her a
toy without buying Desi a toy also. So, Dolly’s birthday was May 20th – two
months ago, and Desi’s is August 19th, a month after when I was at the pet
store. I got each of them two stuffed toys and gave them both the toys at the
same time. Solved the problem!

Clothes…if I buy Dolly a new dress, there is not the understanding from Desi
that Dolly has a new dress and he didn’t get a new shirt…and vice versa. Desi
really didn’t care that Dolly got a necklace for Christmas and he didn’t!

If you are only going to buy one thing, PetEdge may not turn out to be very
economical. I think if your order is under $60 they charge a small order fee.
You may be able to find her a little necklace at some smaller pet store,
groomer, etc. in your area. A vest harness made by Mare would be a very nice
gift also. My two only want to share the toys…and if for one’s birthday they
both share them anyway! Clothes, jewelry, all that is just stuff they don’t
see as something to be shared. However…I put the leash or harness on one, I
really can’t get away without putting it on the other. From the time that Desi
was three months old, I couldn’t get Dolly to leave with me to go to the vet or
anywhere else…she would put on her brakes and when I asked her to show me, she
pulled so hard to take me to Desi’s area…she wanted him to come along.
Now…every time one needs a shot or are sick, they both go and the one that is
not there for a medical visit sits right next to me until the other comes back
and it is time to go home. I actually think that is very sweet, and I really
don’t want to be breaking any bonds that they have built. Some days taking two
to the vet; two to the groomer for nail trims; two to my friends’ houses to
play, is quite a chore. I don’t know how you do it with six!

It would be nice to go all out for Nyala's 18th birthday but I can't afford to
much, my problem is that when I get her something, the others feel as though
they should be getting something too. Pictures of the gang is in the group
photo's under Eileen's Chi Babies. Nyala is about 10 pounds, I will check into
what Pet Edge has on clearance. Since I lost my husband last year, and my
neighbor moved away, it will only be only me and the babies celebrating the
birthday.

Thank you,

Wow…18 years old!!! That is wonderful!

Hmmm…there are some very beautiful little girlie beds out there…some even say
‘princess’ on them. I got Dolly a very cute little pearl necklace (elastic to
stretch to put on her) and it has a heart at the center with little pink pave
CZ. I got it at PetEdge on clearance…not sure if they still have them.

How big is she? I guess maybe her weight and a picture. Some clothes that I
buy Dolly don’t really fit too well. Some are really too wide at the front arm
level…maybe they are made for Yorkies or other breeds that are broader at the
shoulder level.

I gave Dolly a birthday party for her first birthday. I bought little mini
muffins and I made little ‘dog house’ shapes and cut them out and then glued a
tiny picture of Dolly’s head in the doorway. I taped a umbrella toothpick to
the back and inserted them in the top of the mini muffin…they were called ‘pup
cakes’.

I also took a picture of her and made it 8 ½ x 11 size. Then I cut out the
ears and the border of the top of her head. I cut that shape out of light card
stock and then I put a rolled piece of tape on the back. At the party, I put
the entire picture of Dolly on a piece of cardboard and then put a scarf around
each person’s eyes and we played ‘Pin the Ears on Dolly’.

OK…that birthday party was so much work…it was the only one that she had…
Desi doesn’t know and will never know! But, 18 years is a very special
birthday, so maybe you want to go all out and have the pupcakes and pin the
ears on Nyala.

Hi all,

I am starting to think towards celebrating Nyala 18th birthday on September
1st. Trying to come up with things that she would enjoy, like a dress harness,
so that she can feel like a queen. So if you have any ideas, please let me know.

Thank you,
