Many dogs are allergic to stuff in their food...like corn, wheat, beef, etc.
Try switching to a higher quality food with limited ingredients to see if that
helps stop the itching/watery eyes. I like Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance
L.I.D. dog food. It is a limited ingredient food. The Duck and Potato flavor
seems to be a favorite among canines. If your pup's skin/watery eyes clear up
after using it, then you will know it was a food allergy. I've tried several
different foods for my chi (he doesn't have any skin itchiness though) and
Natural Balance L.I.D. make his coat so shiny, soft, and sheds very little.
Unfortunately, the food makes him poop a lot.
Also, I read on the internet that Chi's tend to have watery eyes. I think it's
because of their small skulls and large, "pop" eyes. I wonder if the "apple
head" chis have a worse time with it than "deer head" chis. My chihuahua is a
deer head type and his eyes slightly water only occasionally.
