It is my intention. She married Joe when she was about 35, and I am not sure
if she was living on her own before that…but if she was 38 years of being
married and having someone with you is a long time. I know that I got Dolly
the day after everything was here from California. I had just lost my dear Mom
three months before, but I had to do all the packing and moving and couldn’t
really put a new dog into that mix. I remember holding Dolly and talking to
her and telling her about her ‘grandma’ and when I cried she would lick the
tears from my face. I think that very close bond that we had together is what
makes her think that she is a person and not a dog! I know that a lot of times
Chihuahuas get a bad rap because of those that don’t train them from when they
are a puppy. So when I got Desi, I was hoping that he would be sweet like
Dolly. He has a wonderful personality and he likes people and dogs. So maybe
there is something to their personality being formed from their environment.
Actually, I don’t think that I ever wanted a dark dog. I didn’t want a male
dog. But when I went to the breeder she had Desi & his littermate brother that
were able to go home and she had a female that would be ready to go home in
another two weeks. I held Desi, and I just fell in love with him. He looked
like a baby bear. Because of the way that he developed and how fat he was, he
wasn’t always the cutest, but now that he is getting a much thinner face he is
getting cuter every day. He is the little kisser. He could win a contest for
cleaning the faces and necks of people. He is a Mama’s boy…always wants to be
near me. It isn’t what is on the outside, it is what is in the inside anyway!

Joan,

When my son recently passed away, I went to the shelter to find a little
friend. I already have one dog, but I just felt that I needed another dog -
something to love and hold. I found my little Koby within three weeks. At first
I didn't think I loved him; I didn't like his coloring; I thought I'd made a
big mistake.

Well, now my little Koby is beautiful to me and I do love him very much. He
sleeps under the covers making sure some part of his body touches some part of
my body. He is now such a vital part of my life. So is my other dog, but he's
not so much a cuddler. He's 11 years old and is moving a little slower all the
time.

Anyway, my point was to ask you to try to convince your friend to get a dog. I
don't know of any more affectionate dog than a chi. It will help her so much.
Please give her my condolences.

Sorry I rambled on so much,

Carolyn

Thank you. I try to catch the good moments. I love those little balls of fur!
I was talking to one of my friends who just lost her husband three weeks ago.
She was saying that after all the immediate stuff that has to be handled that
she might look into getting a puppy or a kitten. I told her that if she does
come to visit that she will go home wanting to have a Chihuahua when she sees
how sweet and loving they can be.
