With few exceptions, there is no "absolute" right or wrong in feeding
our Chihuahuas.

I currently have a 27 year old Chihuahua (yes, you have read his age
right) who ate kibble (varying brands over the years) for his first
18 years of life. Now that he has fewer teeth and a slight heart
murmur, he eats a combination of canned HD and Gerbers jarred chicken
baby food.

He has also snacked on fruits and veggies since he was a
puppy. Still does. He loves lettuce. Blessed with good genetics,
this boy has been an exceptionally healthy dog for his entirely
life. Is it the food he eats, or is it merely good genetics? Or both?

My feeding choices have also been the similar for all my other 9
generations of Chihuahuas since 1979. And were my family's feeding
choices for the Chihuahuas I grew up with prior to that. The only
raw food my dogs have eaten is fruits and veggies. This all being
said, having Chihuahuas live to well over 20 years old in good health
is not unusual for us. So whatever I am feeding obviously "works" for my dogs.

However if someone else feels feeding a raw meat diet is best for
their dogs, that's fine for them - just as long as their dogs thrive.

The big problem with these discussions on "what to feed" is that the
discussions often lead to over zealous passions concerning a specific
way of doing things. Those passions then are often accompanied by an
unacceptance that other ways can be just as "right".

Nevertheless, more than one approach to "what to feed" may be "the
right way".
