Well, we are 1 month out.
All of a sudden on Friday, George started tippytoeing on both back legs. Up
till then, he was using both legs consistently and making great progress. I
put him back on crate rest, but by yesterday he was holding up his left leg
completely and by last night he didn't want to use either, doing his 2 front
legged circus dog walk to go potty :(
We went in to the ER and they took some fluid from around his knees, drew blood
and did more xrays. They sent him home with more pain killers and
anti-inflammatories along with an appt with his surgeon, today.
The poor little guy doesn't feel good at all, he has just stayed in bed and
whimpers when I take him outside to go potty. I feel like the bad guy when he
still gives me kisses when I tuck him back in.
Anyway, we went for our appt today and the surgeon said that George is
rejecting the pins, leading to swelling and inflammation and making his legs
too painful for him to want to use. Since he is only 1 month out from the
surgery, his bones have not healed enough to remove the pins. The pins haven't
migrated, so the best option is to deal with the symptoms and try to leave the
pins in place for at least 2 more weeks. One day at a time.
So, new challenges to face. Sweet George needs a break! Ironically, I am
looking forward to having to try to keep him calm again, at least then he felt
good enough to play and be a puppy :)
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers and reiki!
Quinn, George and Rylie
