I am sorry to hear of Cait's problems also.

When I was reading about the head banging, I was remembering when my spinal
fluid was low. My head hurt so bad and my natural reaction was to press it,
thinking it would stop. When I think of that, I wonder why I would do that
because it sounds like it would make it worse.

The other thing that comes to mind, that would have the smelling symptoms
and the head symptoms would be possibly a sinus infection.when I have a
sinus infection, I get a very specific smell and no matter where I am and
what I am doing, I smell it. I am sorry, but I don't remember if you had
mentioned sinus infection as one of the possibilities that you have already
checked out. Gigi is very small and it doesn't take too much to get a
little gal like her having some of those symptoms. Sometimes when I have a
sinus infection there is not too many symptoms such as runny nose, etc., but
it still hurts very bad in my forehead, skull and just that horrible burning
kind of feeling in my sinus cavities.

Hi Kathleen.

Thank you for the info and I am sorry to hear that your baby has it. She was
tested and it only showed that her liver readings were border line. I did do
a lot of research on liver shunt and asked 2 different Vets that checked her
out and took different blood test and they both agreed that she didn't have
liver shunt. Although, I am seriously beginning to wonder. Maybe it is just
a matter of time, before another test would come back positive.

She is doing so much better yesterday and today. She isn't sleeping as much
and is doing zoomies, very little smelling odd things and she didn't bang
her head today. She is still very wriggly on my lap, but it I give her a
gentle 'stop it and take it easy' and she calms down. I have been slowly
increasing her new kibble that has a lower protein and fat and maybe that is
helping.

You know, I am beginning to think that seizures are only a symptom of a more
serious problem, like liver shunt. So most of the meds are only to control
the seizures and not the underlying cause of it. I am trying to hold off as
much as possible, and I think that the diet is the most crucial factor to
consider. Lower protein and no people food, except veggies. I didn't even
give her a little egg and cheese this week. The girls love an occasional egg
and some times bits of American cheese. I am glad that she does like the
milkbones, at least she knows that she is getting some thing special.

Is your Cait overweight? Gigi seems to be doomed to stay at the 7 pound mark
when she should be a little under the 6 pound mark. I often wonder if her
being border line with the liver has something to do with her not loosing
that extra pound. Even in the summer with being on only a 1/3 cup of kibble,
split into two meals and only 1 milkbone split into 2 treats per day, and
all the walking that we did, she still didn't loose an ounce.

Please post more often Kathleen and keep me updated on ca it and let me know
if the diet and meds are really working. Feel free to email me privately if
you want to. Wishing ca it the best! How about a pic? I would love to see
one.

Peggy

I haven't been on this group in awhile and was just checking in. I saw the
posts about Gigi. One of my dogs was just diagnosed with a liver shunt.
Gigi's behavior and seizures sure sound similar to a liver problem.
Especially the head pressing etc. and you've noticed that high protien is a
problem. Sadly this can run in Chi's. But, it is treatable and sometimes
operable. My Cait has this and recently started taking a form of Keppra.
Combined with perscription diet, I think it is helping. You may want to have
your vet run a bile acid test (for some reason most vets don't look for this
disease).

I wish you the best in getting Gigi help. I know how frustrating it can be
to figure out what is wrong...

Kathleen
