I think that it may be because she is a long hair and she is used to living in a cold climate.
Desi would not sleep under a blanket in his area. I must have got up three or four times that first night and put the blanket back on top of him. I would wake up and he would be crying…the blanket would not be on top of him anymore. After a couple days I asked the breeder how he slept there, and she said that they all just piled up on top of each other. I guess Desi must have been the one on the top because he didn’t want to have anything on top of him. As he started to lose all the extra blubber on him, he then started wanting to be under the blankets. Too much fat and he was much to warm to have a blanket on top. Now, he is the one that will go under more blankets than Dolly does. Gigi must be the only chi in the world that doesn't like to hide under blankets! She likes it if I hold the blanket up over her so that she has some space, but once it falls on top of her she goes nuts and panics to get out from under it. She doesn't really pile the blanket up like most dogs do. She does however love to lay on a pile of laundry and will even fix it to her comfort. -------Original Message------- From: Lynda <mailto:[email protected]> Date: 1/20/2012 4:26:46 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] burrowing under the covers - how do you breathe little one? Happy Friday everyone....whew...long week (and it was a short one for me).... I gotta ask - and I've asked this of my vets as well - they just say 'I don't know they just do'. My Timmy (schnoodle) and Charlotte (chi) - like to burrow down under the covers to sleep (all night)....I worry so much about them being able to breathe - but they insist and keep burrowing down under the blanket and quilt I have on my bed-Timmy goes down to my hip and curls up against my stomach if I'm on my side. I keep Charlotte up near my hip so I can check her throughotu the night to be sure she's still breathing (I don't sleep through the night ever)-but she would go to my knees if I let her. And wow - talk about generating the heat - whew... Do you ever wonder how in the world are they able to breathe? Lynda
