I have tile floors in all of the house except the bedrooms where there is carpet. But, with Dolly, I had some area rugs that I brought with from CA. They were not that good, but decided to put them down as long as I had them. Actually it was one pretty good size area rug and two runners. Dolly would poop on them. I would clean it off then put them in the washer and dryer and put them back down.she would use them again. By this time, I knew it was not from the odor remaining, and I just pulled them up and took them out of the house. Desi has always thought that carpet is more fun. He doesn't pee on it anymore, but from all the times that he did, and all the times that I used something to clean it up.my carpet is a total mess. That is in the master bedroom and I am going to have it pulled out and put hard plank vinyl down. If they don't have something soft and warm to stand on when going potty.then they will go outside and on the puppy pads.

I am now so in love with our new little boy, Valken, that I can hardly see straight - but - I am not sure how to do this right so any advice you all can give is very very appreciated. Here's what's going on. We've got an ex-pen set up for him in the family room...his bed is at one end with his food and water and at the other end of it is a puppy pad for him. He spends the night in there (and is fine with that) and is in there when I'm out of the house et. Otherwise, it's open and he can come and go...and poop on his pad (which he does many times when he's in overnight). But - when he's out and about he really likes to poop on the edges of a couple of rugs..or any other place that he thinks is interesting. Fortunately we have wood floors. ( he will go and pee on his pad in the pen) I put a 2nd pad down in another room where he likes to race around on the rug. He dragged the pad around and played with it - entertaining but not what I had in mind. Later I found that pad wadded up in the middle of the rug. He'd pooped on it...and on the edge of the rug. Hard to tell i f this is progress or not. The times I've caught him about to poop, took him to his pen to do it - he didn't do it there - he did it when he went back out. A couple of times i've caught him about to do it but he couldn't stop so he pooped and then would try to eat it. I assume to hide the "evidence". He doesn't get yelled at or disciplined after the fact. Also, we don't seem to be on any schedule where he eats and then 10 minutes later he poops. Sorry this is so long but I wanted to give you all an idea of what's going on here and I am a total neophyte at this. What I'd really love is for him to use the pads if he's inside. If I need to put one in every room that's ok. If I have to redo his pen and make even more space between his bed and pad I'll do that. But at this point, I'm not sure what to do. Thanks.
