It is a dominance thing..unless of course they are not neutered.  Some hump, 
both males and females, some don't.  Paco has a "bride" lol and he will drag 
her out and spend quality time with her.  No other dogs are allowed to touch 
his bride.  If he goes on for hours I will give his bride a rest or if company 
is over, but otherwise I let him be a dog.

This is very natural behavior.  Our 3 year old routinely humps his beds.  
sometimes when he is obsessive about it I will take it/them away but mostly we 
just ignore it or I distract him to a different activity.  It is harmless 
unless they start going after you or your guests.  It is not usually sexual 
unless maybe it is an un-neutered male.  Sometimes I think it just feels good 
on his little "parts". Our 4 year boy old who does "mark" on occasion never 
humps anything.
