Wow, you have been busy! Two more chi's.....how wonderful for you!! Pulling Daisy's puppy teeth, shouldn't be a big ordeal, and she will feel so much better afterwards. It is also possible that she was shaking because she was chilled, and not just nerves. Did she have a sweater on? Can't say I am for breeding more pet quality chis, but once they are breed, they too deserve a loving home. I have to say, if that were me and the breeder wanted to stud one more time, I would have asked her if she has ever looked at the numbers on Petfinders and why she wants to bring more of them into this world. But, hey, that's just my way of seeing things.
I am very happy for you and can't wait until we see their pictures and learn more about them. BTW, since Daisy is coming from a rescue, did you ask why they didn't fully vet her for everything she needs, including her teeth? For $300.00 they should have, or give you a partial refund once you show proof that her teeth were taken care of. And it should be written in the contract that they make you sign. You have nothing to loose by asking. If it is a non profit then they should be able to afford it before they put a dog up for adoption. My opinion is that since she is a mill dog, it would be wise to get a full blood test done now, so that you will be aware of any possible issues that may come up in the future. Actually, I believe in doing a full vetting with blood and urine, and feces on any adopted/bought dog, plus of course any shots and HW test and meds, and worming if needed, spaying. If there are any issues, they can be addressed now, instead of waiting until later when the dog may get seriously ill. That also safeguards you with a breeder. Is Daisy spayed? And how old is she now? 2000 sq ft of pure doggie park......how wonderful for them!! They will all be in heaven! -------Original Message------- From: Cindy Date: 4/8/2012 9:24:44 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Chihuahuas] Big News! Hi Everyone, I have some exciting news! I think I mentioned quite some time ago that I had been hoping to get a little male Chi and had also been looking at a tiny little female who had been in rescue for about 4 months. My husband Rob had big concerns that bringing another dog into the house would upset the balance we have with Cooper and Dali. He did agree that Cooper would enjoy another playmate as he is more playful than Dali wants to be. I had been visiting the adoptathons every weekend and fell in love with a little female named Daisy. I spent about 3 hours with her and talking to her foster Mom. Daisy is extremely fearful, apparently she had been in a puppy mill but was too tiny to be able to breed. I don't know the full story but she trembles and has lots of retained baby teeth. The daunting thing is that the rescue wants $300 to adopt her..this along with her issues made Rob say no way! He wanted to look at Chi's with less baggage, so we went to see a little male from a breeder who was looking to sell some of her males. He was a small little guy, very cuddly and friendly and we thought he would be great with Cooper. She wanted to breed him one time though, when one of her females came in heat so that was part of the deal. We would have to wait another month or so and then she would have him neutered before we could take him home. This was back in the beginning of January. Finally this Saturday I get to pick him up! I'm very excited! All this time though I can't get Daisy out of my head! I keep checking to see if she has been adopted yet. I saw her a couple of weeks ago at an adoptathon. I keep talking about her and my husband wouldn't budge. This past weekend I knew they were having the adoptathon at my local Petsmart I thought Daisy might be there if she was still available. I couldn't stand thinking about it so I reluctantly approached Rob and asked if he would ever possibly consider adopting Daisy. After all the same reservations, he said, What is it about this dog? I don't get it?" I got pretty emotional talking about it but I told him that I had just felt such a connection from the first time I saw her picture online for adoption. I can't explain it, then after I held her I couldn't forget. Long story short, he sighed and said, "Oh well I guess if we have 3 then I guess 4 won't make that much difference! Hurry up and get up to Petsmart and see if she is still there!" I raced up to Petsmart and didn't see Daisy at first but then saw that her foster Mom was holding her and talking to a lady. I asked the lady if she was adopting Daisy, and that I had come specifically about this dog. She said she wasn't sure and that she would let me see her if I was interested. I filled out the application, (which was about as extensive as adopting a child!) and talked with Daisy's foster Mom for an hour. They are asking for a home visit before they will consider adopting her out, they will call me to set it up this week! So this has been quite an exciting weekend! If this all works out I will really need all of your help, as now I will have a real pack and want to introduce the new dogs in the best possible way. I welcome any advice, I'm going to have my hands full pretty soon! I sure don't want to make Rob regret agreeing to Daisy . He has been working on expanding the fenced in area of our yard; we will soon have over 2000 square feet of Chihuahua safe play area! Sorry to be so long winded but just had to share this! Hope everyone is having a great Easter and weekend! Cindy
